John Cheer was born in Brentwood, Essex, and, as a teenager, studied piano and organ in the Saturday Junior Department of Trinity College of Music. In 1987 he moved to Cardiff to read Physics and Music at the University, continuing his organ studies with Robert Court. A Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, John contributes to the music in a number of local churches and can also be heard regularly in BBC broadcasts such as Radio 4’s Daily Service. He was the accompanist of the Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society and enjoys working with a number of other ensembles. In 2009 John qualified as a Music Therapist, following three years part time training at the University of the West of England in Bristol. In March 2010 he took up a part-time position as a Music Therapist with Bristol Community Health, working in the Community Learning Difficulties Team.
