Simon Curtis

Simon Curtis was born in Hertfordshire.

Since turning professional in 1996 he has performed with many of the leading opera companies throughout the UK. Simon has sung an Apprentice in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and has also performed Ligeti's Le Grand Macabre with London Sinfonietta Voices at the Châtelet Theatre in Paris (recorded by Sony Classical). With English Touring Opera rôles included Macduff (Macbeth), Un Paysan (La Fille du Régiment) and 1st Prisoner (Fidelio). As a member of the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company he has taken part in productions of Iolanthe, HMS Pinafore, Count of Luxembourg and The Mikado. Simon has been a member of the Glyndebourne Chorus and is currently a member of Welsh National Opera, with whom he has performed and understudied a large number of rôles, including Kromow in The Merry Widow alongside Lesley Garrett which was broadcast on the BBC over Christmas 2005; he also created the rôle of Sarastro in Magic Voices, a WNO MAX Commission as well as being a soloist in the World Premiere of Carbon 12 – A Choral Symphony by Errollyn Wallen.

His concert work is extensive, appearing at the Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Leeds Town Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Bridgewater Hall Manchester, St Johns Smith Square, St James Piccadilly and many other venues in the UK and Europe. Simon has appeared in many of the popular oratorios and masses, and also in Britten’s Serenade for Tenor and Horn, Finzi’s Dies Natalis and also Geoffrey Burgon’s The Fall of Lucifer, conducted by the composer.

Simon is currently Music Director of City Voices Cardiff, a vocal coach and arranger for Sing Live UK and has also been a vocal tutor for the National Youth Choir of Wales.
