Threats to Ty Cerddd Funding

As an arts organisation we receive funding from Ty Cerdd every year but in the current climate the budget for this support is likely to be cut becuase the budgert of the Aerts Council Wales is likely to be cut.

Keith Griffen, the Director of Ty Cerdd, has contacted the organisations that they support asking for their help in fighting the cuts. We are asked to contact ACW to protest against the cuts. The budget is set ultimately by the Assembly so it is also worth contacting your AM as well.

Term Dates

Next Wednesday (24th) is the last rehearsal this term. The Summer Term will start on April 14th, when subs will fall due.

Cabaret & Supper Evening

This has now been fixed for April 17th at 7:30pm. The two week break over Easter is a perfect opportunity for polishing up your routines! Please give any music you want our accompanist to play to Craig as soon as possible.

The evening includes a supper and there will be menu options suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Tickets are £10 from Margot;

Summer Concert Scores

In Association with Amazon.co.uk

We will be singing pieces from the book European Sacred Music from Oxford Choral Classics, edited by John Rutter. It can be ordered from Amazon at considerably less than we can get it in Cardiff (£11.47 against £14.95. Use the link and the choir will receive a cut of the purchase price.

There is also a rehearsal CD of the Kodàly Missa Brevis available from Saffron Choral Prompt. Unfortunately there is no online ordering so you will need to ring them (number on contact page). I'm negotiating a discount with them.

Subscriptions Due (2010-01-23)

Firstly a reminder to everybody that subs for this term are now due. The amount for the term is £35 or £18 for concessions. Also any donations of £10 towards the cost of the ensemble for the concert are needed this week. We are facing a cash flow crisis when it comes to covering the costs of the concert. We need another £500 in the coffers by next week. Cheques to the Treasurer by Wednesday please.

Cabaret Postponement

Because we have missed two rehearsals thanks to the snow and because the proposed date was so close to the concert we have decidced to postpone the Cabaret. It will now be held at a date halfway between the winter and summer concerts.

Healthy Sounds

We raised £200 by singing carols at the Palliative Care Day Centre in Pontypridd before Christmas and we have the opportunity to raise another £200 by singing in the same place on March 24th. The gig wil be at lunchtime and will consist of the "party pieces" of those who can attend. It will thus be an oportunity to practice your items for the Cabaret.

Events in February

  1. The tenors are busy organising another cabaret on February 13th. Last year's was extremely enjoyable and incidentally raised a fair chunk for choir funds. We hope that you are preparing your turn. Contact Margot with details or to offer help in other ways.
  2. Ty Cerdd is organising a singing day on February 20th. Like last year's Elijah workshop it will be led by Adrian Partington, Director of the BBC National Chorus of Wales. The piece to be studied is Bach's B-minor Mass. This is sure to be a hugely enjoyable day. Contact Rhiannon McLean at Ty Cerdd before Feb 1st to reserve your place.

Healthy Sounds

Healthy sounds is a scheme organised by Ty Cerdd and funded by the Welsh Asssembly to bring music by amatuer groups into hospitals to improve the quality of life for patients and staff. About a dozen of us went to the Y Blwythen on the edge of Pontypridd. This is a Day Centre offering palliative pain releif for patients. We also had a few people from the nearby Day Centre for the elderly. Both choir and audience had a really good sing and we all enjoyed ourselves. In addition the choir will receive a fee of £200 from the scheme. Not bad a few hours work!
