James Neville

James Neville is currently studying for an MPhil in Musicology at Cambridge University, and sings in the world famous King's College Choir. James is a graduate in Modern History from the University of Oxford, where he won an Academical Clerkship to sing in the Grammy-nominated Choir of Magdalen College, Oxford. As a boy, James was Head Chorister of Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral Choir and was educated at its choir school, St John's College in Old St Mellons.

James studies singing with Ashley Stafford at the Royal College of Music. Recent solo appearances include Bach's St John Passion at Llandaff Cathedral, Bach's B Minor Mass with Swindon Choral Society, Handel's Messiah at Dorchester Abbey, Purcell's Fairy Queen at Fitzwilliam College and Messiah in the Chapel of Trinity College (Cambridge). Forthcoming solo engagements include the St John Passion both in the Chapel of Trinity College and in Cardiff's St David's Hall, and also Handel's Messiah in Llandaff Cathedral.

In addition to singing, James is a conductor, most notably directing Magdalen College Orchestra in Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto no. 2, and he currently studies with the Cambridge conductor Stephen Layton. He was also a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, and was principal oboist in Welsh National Youth Opera. From 2007-2009, James was a lecturer in Music for Cardiff University Lifelong Learning at the University Music Department, and has also taught history and music up to A level.
