Claire Hampton

Claire was born in Staffordshire. Her training began at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tuition of Teresa Cahill. Her studies were generously supported by the Peter Moores Foundation. Claire joined the Welsh National Opera in 2002 and since joining them she has also enjoyed many principal roles including, Jana (Jenufa) Janacek, Echo (Ariadne) Strauss, Papagena (The Magic Flute) Mozart, 1st Squire (Parsifal) Wagner and various understudies including, Angel (Jephtha) Zerlina (Don Giovanni) Mozart, Frasquita (Carmen) Bizet, Gianetta (L'Elisir D'Amore) Donizetti.

Claire was one of the soloists in The Most Beautiful Man from the Sea—a community project that many Canton Chorus members took part in in 2005.

Claire performs regularly on the concert platform and has sung Handel's Messiah for the Welsh National opera both as a soloist and chorister.

Recordings include Janacek's Jenufa with the Welsh National opera under the baton of Sir Charles Mackerras and Katya Kabanova under the baton of Carlo Rizzi.

Claire will be appearing in concert at the Victoria Hall in her home town of Stoke-on-Trent in March.
